UP 6925 was sold to Dakota Southern Railroad, Wagner, South Dakota on 20 April 1987, stored at Chamberlain, South Dakota; empty shell, with engines, generators, air compressors and traction motors missing; not officially preserved; still there in mid-January 2015.

The following comes from Alex Huff, via an email dated December 31, 2005:

The shell of the 6925 is still here in Chamberlain. When DSRC purchased the unit it had already been prepped by UP for trade-in. There were no traction motors or air compressors and the original prime movers had been removed. To qualify as trade in material, as I understand it, the unit had to have prime movers, so UP had dropped a pair of heavy block 645E3B's out of (I assume) SD40-2's. Both engines had thrown rods. We bought the unit as a parts source at approximately its scrap value based on weight. Our two SD7's and SD-9 had all been upgraded with 567C engines with 645 power packs by the MILW. It was also a bit of a lark, we didn't bid much for it. After we were notified we had won the bid, my brother and I decided to buy a spare truck frame from the 6906, on the slight chance that the 6925 would ever be put back into service and knowing that the trucks were as near as an irreplaceable part on the unit and that further UP had cracked a couple when someone didn't follow maintenance instructions and tried to support a unit on the first and fourth axles. At present, the prime movers are gone, sold to MK for cores for rebuilding for commuter locomotives at a time when heavy block 645's were very hard to find. The AR-12 alternators were sold to NRE for load testing rebuilt prime movers. Should the locomotive be rebuilt, I envision a couple of cheap (again?) SD40-2's donating the necessary guts, leaving two spare traction motors. I doubt that we will do it, but it won't be scrapped. Ed Bowers would probably drive a stake through my heart if I did. I get an occasional inquiry as to whether it is for sale from the locomotive collecting fraternity as it is the only one in private hands.

(Dakota Southern also retains one of the truck frames from UP 6906, which was purchased from St. Louis Auto Shredding, the company that had scrapped UP 6906.)

18. UP 6930 was donated to Smoky Hill Railway & Historical Society, Shawnee Mission, Kansas, 21 June 1985, delivered August 1985; traded to Illinois Railway Museum in exchange for former Wabash coaches; UP 6930 was shipped from Kansas City to Chicago on 31 October 1991.
19. UP 6936 is the last operating UP DDA40X, still in service, used for special trains. (Read more about UP 6936 as part of UP's Heritage Fleet)
20. UP 6938 was donated during 1985 to Steamtown USA, Scranton, Pennsylvania; ownership of unit returned to UP in December 1988 following takeover of Steamtown by National Park Service (UP 6938 never left UP property); stored at North Little Rock, Arkansas until cosmetically restored and placed on display at Jenks Shops, North Little Rock, Arkansas in November 1989.
21. UP 6944 was donated to National Museum of Transportation, St. Louis, Missouri on August 14, 1984; moved in October 2014 to Norfolk Southern's Juniata Shops at Altoona, Pennsylvania, for cosmetic restoration, completed in mid May 2015 and returned to St. Louis (includes incorrect 60-inch Union Pacific medallions; should not have the word 'Railroad' on the medallion)
22. UP 6946 was donated to Feather River Rail Society in July 1984, delivered on 20 August 1984; unit was cosmetically restored, but stripped of usable parts by UP.

General Notes:

a. UP's designation for these locomotives is C60AC; GE's designation is AC6000CW.
b. UP 7001-7005 had original build dates of December 1995, as reflected on their builder's plates; during the formal one-year test period, these units operated on UP and were returned to GE for modifications prior to delivery to UP in November 1996.
c. "UP's first two 6000-h.p. AC-traction locomotives have been undergoing performance tests during their first weeks of service. UP units 7000 and 7003 made their intermodal run from Chicago to Salt Lake City and underwent high-speed testing on trains between Salt Lake City and Green River. These units, plus four more 6,000-h.p. ACs -- UP 7001, UP 7002, UP 7004 and UP 7005 -- will soon be placed into service between North Platte and Green River in 12,000-h.p. pairs." (Update Line, Union Pacific Communications Department, November 26, 1996)
d. Renumbered from 7000 series to 7500 series at GE in Erie, Pa., upon installation of upgraded engines.

General Notes:

a. UP 7010-7012 were ordered as UP 7080-7082; the UP 7010-7012 number group was originally assigned to a canceled order for three SP C60AC units (assigned SP numbers 600-602).
b. The UP designation for these locomotives is both C44/60AC and C6044AC; GE designation is AC6000 Convertible (Norm Metcalf reports that AC6000CW is displayed on builder's plate)
c. UP 7010-7079 (70 units) were assigned UP 7336-7405 in the December 1999 renumber plan; 30 units renumbered between June 2000 and September 2005; those 30 units are to be renumbered (out of sequence) back to the 7010 series to clear the 7300 series for additional new units from GE (UP 7377 was the first, renumbered to UP 7011 (2nd) on August 1, 2008).
