Union Pacific, Not In Utah

These pages present information about various Union Pacific subsidiaries that added their own locomotives to UP's large fleet of locomotives, both steam and diesel.

Coalmont Branch — Information about the former Laramie, North Park & Western Railroad in Wyoming.

Colorado Central — Information about the Colorado Central Railroad, including the Colorado Central Julesburg Branch, UP's line in northeastern Colorado.

Denver Pacific Railway — Information about Denver Pacific Railway & Telegraph Co., Denver to Cheyenne, 1867-1880.

Denver, South Park & Pacific Railroad — Information about the DSP&P, including Denver, Leadville & Gunnison, part of Union Pacific from 1885 to 1894.

Encampment Branch — Information about the former Saratoga & Encampment Valley Railroad in Wyoming; sold to UP in 1928, merged with UP in 1951.

Enaville Branch — Information about the former Idaho Northern Railroad in Idaho's panhandle, sold to Oregon Railroad & Navigation Co.

Idaho Central Branch — Information about the former Idaho Central Railway, which became part of OSL&UN in 1889; its 19 miles of track between Nampa and Boise became OSL's Idaho Central Branch; later became the Boise to Nampa portion of the 1923-1924 Boise Main Line.

Idaho Northern Branch — Information about the former Boise, Nampa & Owyhee Railway, then the Idaho Northern Railway, both in western Idaho; sold to Oregon Short Line, sold by UP to Idaho Northern & Pacific in 1993.

Ilwaco Railway & Navigation Company — Information about the narrow gauge railroad in southwestern Washington that furnished Oregon Railway & Navigation's, and Oregon-Washington Railroad & Navigation's only narrow gauge locomotives.

Kansas Central — Information about the Kansas Central Railway (later Railroad) controlled by Union Pacific after 1881 and which contributed 12 narrow gauge locomotives to UP's 1885 roster.

Kansas Pacific Railway — Information about Leavenworth, Pawnee & Western (1855-1863); Union Pacific Railway Eastern Division (1863-1869); and Kansas Pacific Railway, 1869-1880.

Kearney Branch — Information about the former Kearney & Black Hills Railway in Nebraska.

Montana Union Railway — Information about a line in Montana owned by UP and leased to Northern Pacific from 1886 to today (still leased to BNSF today). Included is a Google map of the railroad.

New Meadows Branch — Information about the former Pacific & Idaho Northern Railway in Idaho.

North Coast Railroad — Information about the North Coast Railroad, which built UP's OWRR&N Yakima Branch between Wallula and Yakima, Washington in 1909-1911.

Omaha & Republican Valley Railway — Information about the OR&V which added several branches to UP's Nebraska and Kansas divisions.

St. Joseph & Grand Island Railway — Information about the StJ&GI, controlled by UP after 1897 and leased to UP in 1936; sold by UP in 1990 and bought back by UP in 1999.

Walla Walla & Columbia River Railroad — Information about the narrow gauge railroad in southeastern Washington that furnished some of Oregon Railway & Navigation's narrow gauge locomotives. Some of the line's locomotives were sold in 1883 to Mill Creek Flume & Manufacturing Company, which itself was sold to ORy&N in 1887.
