Utah Transit Authority's FrontRunner Commuter Rail — Status

This page was last updated on September 27, 2006.

Notes:

  1. Milestone dates are largely estimated based on projected schedules.
  2. Construction sequence generally proceeds from clearing ("grubbing") existing vegatation, then bulk excavation and pole line removal, then drainage and utility work, then sub-railbed and embankment work, then railbed work, then actual trackwork (including ties and rail). Many tasks overlap throughout the project schedule, depending on subcontractor schedules and issue resolution.
  3. Trackwork includes subballast, ballast, ties and rail

UP Signal Changes

To clear the east side of its right-of-way for use by UTA Frontrunner tracks, Union Pacific needed to relocate several of its lineside signals and signal bungalows, along with the hot box detector at Mile Post 800 near the I-15 rest area between Farmington and Kaysville. To manage the signaling changes, UP split the route into six different "phases", with the following start and end points:

UP Track Changes

To make way along the eastward part of its right-of-way for UTA Frontrunner tracks, Union Pacific has needed to realign several portions its existing trackage, as follows:

As of August 2006, there are no plans for any operational connection between UP tracks and UTA tracks, other than some minor access where UP industrial spurs are east of UTA tracks at Cereal Foods (Ogden), Old Mill (Kaysville), and Warm Springs (900 N, Salt Lake City).
