Case 1 -- Emigration Canyon Railroad
To cease operating and dismantle its railroad, located in Emigration canyon.
Operating at a loss of $5,000 to $8,000 per year, with a deficit of $18,000 per year to pay the taxes and the interest on the bonds. The bondholders are willing to allow the company to cease operations. In 1908 the company issued three-hundred $1,000 bonds; these were superseded in 1909 by a single $300,000 bond.
The company was organized on April 24, 1907 by LeGrand Young, and all stock was either owned or controlled by him. Construction was finished in the fall of 1907 and operation began in 1908. A franchise was granted for operation in Salt Lake City on February 5, 1908. A franchise was granted for operation in Emigration canyon by Salt Lake County on April 9, 1910. The railroad's depot was located at 1337 East 500 South.
The road was built to transport sandstone as a building material. Almost immediately, concrete became a strong competitor, causing the sandstone quarries to close, forcing the railroad to depend entirely on passenger traffic. The freight traffic was mostly stone for building purposes, including rubble stone and blocking ("ashler") stone. Starting in 1909 the stone business fell off at least 75 percent. In 1916 only about 100 cords (a container 4x4x8 feet, 128 cubic feet) of building stone was used in Salt Lake City, compared to over 7,000 cords of stone used in the city in 1906 and 1907. In 1916 the railroad did not haul a single car of stone, due to lack of demand.
Protested by the Emigration Canyon Improvement Company and the National Real Estate & Improvement Company, stating that their property located in the canyon would lose value if the railroad was allowed to discontinue its operation.
Protested by Salt Lake City Corporation, based on the public good.
Notice of intent to cease operations was published in the Herald–Republican and Deseret Evening News on April 12, 1917.
Approved August 20, 1917.
Case 6-A -- Utah Light & Traction
To change its schedule of rates and fares.
At the time the company had 165 cars in service and that it was paying license fees on 112 cars. Thirteen cars were obsolete and not in use: cars 7-10 (four cars); cars 84-87 (four cars); and cars 150-154 (five cars). Cars 119-132 (14 cars) are stored and see only intermittent use.
The franchise to operate through Murray was granted by the Murray City Council on March 23, 1909.
The lease between Utah Light & Traction and Utah Power & Light was dated January 2, 1915.

Case 14 -- Salt Lake, Garfield & Western Railway
Railroad applied in July 1917 to cross the tracks of Western Pacific Railroad, Los Angeles & Salt Lake Railroad, and Bingham & Garfield, all at Garfield.
The application was denied on May 8, 1918. An amended application filed on March 7, 1918 asked for permission to jointly use the B&G's sand spur crossing of the WP and LA&SL.
That application was also denied on May 8, 1918. A second amended application filed on April 11, 1918 allowed only that the SL,G&W was permitted to cross the B&G's sand spur, at the SL,G&W's own expense.
(Note: With this action the SL,G&W railroad was essentially barred from reaching its namesake city, Garfield. From examination of UP engineering drawings, at one time, SLG&W did have a depot north of the UP and WP Garfield station. The location for the tracks for the SL,G&W are also shown at Garfield in the state's drawing for the overpass for the highway.)
On September 1, 1916 $300,000 in bonds were sold to improve and electrify the railroad.
(Note: PSC case 14 included Grade Crossing Permit No. 22, in which Western Pacific protested the proposed crossing, stating that the line relocation to allow Utah Copper to expand their tailings pond was under construction.)
Case 20 -- C. A. Clide vs. Bingham & Garfield Railway and Los Angeles & Salt Lake Railroad
To reinstate shuttle train service, between Salt Lake City and Bingham, that was discontinued on December 15, 1917.

Street car service north of the north city limits of Salt Lake City was discontinued on September 20, 1926, per order in Case #863. That point where passengers transfer from street car to motor bus is now called Terminal.
The motor buses are made by Mack.
The route of the motor bus Davis County Line leaves the paved highway at White's Hill and the unpaved route along County Road No. 2 (present day Orchard Drive) is causing wear and tear on the buses. The buses make trip after trip without a single passenger; practically every family along the route owns an automobile.
Case #1075 was approved on April 5, 1929 to dismiss this case (#1063) and to allow UL&T cut street car service back to Warm Springs during off–peak hours and provide street car service to Terminal only during rush hours. The motor bus for the Davis County Line is to connect with the street car at all times, at Warm Springs or at Terminal. The motor bus service to Val Verda is to remain unchanged.

The district's ore reserves have been depleted since 1922.
The railroad was offered to the Tintic Standard Mining Company, but they refused the offer, even with very easy terms.
The railroad was leased to Werritt & Simpson in September 1927. Their operation for the past year has been at a loss and in September 1928 they gave notice that they wanted to give up the lease. The last day of operation was on September 25, 1928.
On September 29th the railroad notified the Commission that they were closed down, but the Commission told them that they must make formal application.
