About Train Consists

The consist for any particular UP passenger train greatly depended on the location and date. Many UP passenger train consists changed as the train traversed its route, as well as month to month for seasonal variation in passenger needs. The Wabash - Union Pacific "City of St Louis" (St Louis to Los Angeles with through cars) detoured via the Wabash line into Council Bluffs due to flooding in eastern Kansas. Due to all the delays, two sets of trains ran into Omaha on July 12, 1951.

The normal route was Wabash St. Louis to Kanas City, then across Kansas to Denver.

May 5, 1967, at Topeka, Kansas:

This is the last sighting of No. 9 with a 5900 class in the train. Larry O'Brien, our illustrious Postmaster General sold the railroads down the river, so that the mail could be carried on airplanes (his previous job was Executive Secretary of Airline Pilots and Owners Association)
