The 1200HP engine was removed from M-10001 body and the mechanical equipment from 12200, and placed in a new body built in UPs Omaha Shops in 1939 which was compatible to CD07-A & B. (See Item 1009), The original 900HP engine went into the M-10002 "B" unit. (See Item 1003), 12200 had an auxiliary power unit installed in 1935, and a dormitory replaced the mail compartment in 1939 shortly before retirement, 10402 had 2 coach seats replaced by a conductors desk in 1935.

Two 1200 HP "A" units (Plan 7340) were ordered 11/33, each to pull an 8 car articulated train, Plans changed, and by 11/34 it was decided to use one of the 1200HP engines to upgrade the M-10001, and the other to be combined with the 900HP engine, originally in the M-10001. Since they now had no power for the 2nd 8 car train, 2 additional units along with a diner for each consist was ordered 3/35.
