Overview
Total of 1,068 rebuilt units -- 997 completed at Sacramento, 71 completed at Houston.
'E' or 'R'
In January 1977, SP made the change from 'E' suffix, to 'R' suffix as part of the locomotive classification, when Southern Pacific Equipment Company was merged with the railroad.
SP only used the 'E' or 'R' suffix as part of its locomotive classification, and did *not* use 'E' or 'R' as part of of the locomotive model.
The 'E' and 'R' suffix is used here to be consistent with numerous previous railfan publications.
