General Notes:

  1. Built as MP 790-814 (there was no MP 815); renumbered to MP 3090-3114 in 1978.
  2. UP 4094 was the lettered Union Pacific using the unique North Little Rock style lettering.
  3. UP 4103 was changed to trailing-unit-only status by removal of refrigerators, toilets, and cab seats, and renumbered with 'B' prefix to UPB 4103 on 31 August 1992.
  4. Remaining 24 units retired on 18 April 1994 upon expiration of 15 year lease on 31 March 1994; returned to lessor; sold to Helm Financial and leased to Canadian National as CN 5364-5387 (temporarily renumbered to CN 6090-6104, 6106-6114 during late April and early May 1994); rebuilt by AMF and repainted to CN on dates given.
  5. Not equipped with dynamic braking.

General Notes:

  1. Total of 49 MP units went to UP at merger, numbered MP 3115-3163; MP 3115-3138 (24 units) were built as T&P 816-839 (there was no T&P 815); renumbered to T&P 3115 series in 1974, the year after delivery; renumbered from T&P 3115 series to MP 3115 series after MP formally merged with its Texas & Pacific subsidiary in October 1976.
  2. MP 3150-3163 (14 units) were delivered as Chicago & Eastern Illinois (C&EI) 3150-3163, renumbered to MP 3150-3163 after MP's C&EI subsidiary formally merged with MP in October 1976.

  4. Of the original 49 units, 14 units (MP 4115, 4120, 4122, 4123, 4130, 4132, 4136, 4140, 4141, 4144, 4148, 4152, 4159, 4163) were repainted to UP yellow and gray, with Missouri Pacific lettering, in November 1984 through October 1985; relettered to UP in April 1988 through August 1993.
  5. Renumbered to UP 4115-4163 in April 1986 through August 1993 (UP 4158, ex MP 3158, was the first, completed on 7 April 1986; UP 4132, ex MP 3132, was the last, completed on 25 August 1993).
  6. Sixteen units (UP 4116, 4117, 4118 (2nd), 4121, 4122, 4124, 4125, 4127, 4128, 4133, 4134, 4136, 4142, 4144, 4145, 4163) were changed to trailing-unit-only status by removal of refrigerators, toilets, and cab seats, and renumbered with "B" number prefix; the conversion and renumbering took place in June through November 1992.
  7. Although not officially retired by UP after being converted to SD38-2s, those units that have been converted are shown above with the rebuild date as their retirement date.
  8. Not equipped with dynamic braking.

  12. 12. MP 3158 (now UP 4158) was renumbered to UP 4118 (1st) on 11 December 1985, held at North Little Rock until 6 January 1986. Road number "corrected" to UP 4158 on 7 April 1986, released for service on 11 April 1986.
  13. 13. UP 4159 was retired on 31 May 1999, but was still on property and had to be renumbered to UP 9882 on 5 December 2000 to clear the UP 4159 number for use by a new SD70M.
  14. 14. UP 4161 was retired on 31 October 2000 but was still on property and was renumbered to WP 4161 on 22 November 2000 to clear the UP 4161 number for use by a new SD70M (the WP series are temporary numbers used for retired locomotives); renumbered to UP 9909 on 17 January 2001 while retired and stored at Los Angeles.
  15. 15. UP 4162 was rebuilt by UP to SD38-2 2827, completed on 20 April 1998.
