General Notes:

1. UP 4000-4074 (75 units), UP 4089-4118 (30 units), and 4275-4284 (10 units) were assembled and painted at GMLG in London, Ontario, Canada; some units were sent to VMV Enterprises, Paducah, Kentucky, and to Coast Engine & Equipment (CEECO), Tacoma, Washington, for final painting; units shipped to CEECO were in gray primer paint and were identified with GMDX 1000 series road numbers.
2. UP 4075-4088 (14 units) and 4165-4274 (110 units) were assembled and painted at Bombardier-Concarril, Sahagun, Mexico.
3. UP 4119-4164 (46 units) were assembled and painted at SuperSteel Schenectady, Inc. (SSSI), Glenville, N.Y.; however, due to the tight delivery schedule, many units were assembled by SuperSteel Schenectady, but were routed to Alstom at Hornell, New York, for final finishing, including final paint for some units.
4. UP 4000-4004 were completed during April 2000 and test run at the London factory on 27 April 2000; first operated by UP on 14 May 2000.

Notes:

1. UP 4141 was renumbered to UP 3778 on 15 October 2005 to clear the 4141 number for use by a new SD70ACE, painted in a white and blue scheme that commemorates President George H. W. Bush, the 41st president.

General Notes:

1. UP 4141 was renumbered from UP 8423 on 7 October 2005, painted in a white and blue scheme that commemorates President George H. W. Bush, the 41st president.
2. First displayed in a ceremony held in a very large tent on the Texas A&M campus; displayed from October 18, 2005, until November 17, 2005; then used on an excursion from College Station to Dallas on November 19-20.
3. UP 4141 was rarely used in general service and was generally stored serviceable at UP's Jenks Shops in North Little Rock, Arkansas; used to power UP inspection trains in 2006 and 2012.
4. Used to power the George H. W. Bush funeral train in December 2018; then used as part of a tour of the Union Pacific system.
5. Traveled to Texas as part of the special train for UP Big Boy 4014 in November 2019.
6. UP 4141 was returned to North Little Rock and all internal components (diesel engine, alternator, traction motors, electronics, etc.) were removed to lighten the overall weight of the locomotive prior to it being placed on permanent display.
7. Placed on permanent display at the Bush Library at College Station, Texas; delivered on March 21, 2021, then lifted by crane and moved by special 12-axle heavy-haul trailer to the display site at the Bush Library on the Texas A&M campus; lifted by crane and placed on permanent display site on Monday March 22, 2021.

General Notes:

1. UP 4526-4528 (3 units) are painted with UP's "Building America" slogan and U.S. flag decal, in memory of 11 September 2001, entering service on 14 November 2001. The flag decal on these three units is slightly different than on later units, using a wooden pole instead of a metal pole, and a slightly different waving shape for the flag.
2. UP 4285-4522 (238 units) were assembled and painted at Bombardier-Concarril, Sahagun, Mexico.
3. UP 4523-4634 (112 units) were assembled and painted at GMLG in London, Ontario, Canada.

Notes:

1. UP 4479 was wrecked on 23 April 2009 at Oakwood, Texas; also wrecked and retired were UP 3833 and UP 9556.
2. UP 4545 was wrecked on 28 June 2004 at MacDona, Texas.
