Notes:
- UP 9665, as C&NW 8601, was the first C44-9CW built by GE; completed during October 1993 (with an official built date of November 1993); painted in a dark gray GE demonstrator paint scheme, with a large, partial GE logo on the cab side (see Extra 2200 South, Issue 101, page 32); sent to the AAR test track near Pueblo, Colo, for high speed and other testing; returned to GE, repainted in standard C&NW colors and delivered to C&NW in late December 1993.
- UP 9682 was painted in full UP yellow and gray, completed on 18 September 2006. (information from Jim Haguewood)
- UP 9691, as UP 9596 (ex C&NW 8627), was the first of this group to be repainted to Union Pacific, completed on 14 November 1995.

- UP 9804 (as C&NW 8700) is equipped with a metal plaque reading "David L. Meyers, 1947-1994" on its nose commemorating the late David L. Meyers, former C&NW Director-Engineer Training.
- UP 9819 (ex C&NW 8715) has been painted with UP's FUTURE Network slogan, denoting "Formally United Together for Understanding and Reaching Everyone"; a network of totally safe workplaces at each of UP's terminals and yards.
- UP's model designation is C44-9W; GE's designation is Dash 9-44CW.
Notes:
- UP 9775, as C&NW 8671 was wrecked, with a crushed cab; repairs included using the salvaged cab from SP 145, which had been wrecked before the UP merger and retained by SP at Burnham Shops in Denver, Colorado.
- UP 9777 (ex C&NW 8693) was the first of this group to be repainted to Union Pacific, completed on 11 October 1996, the only unit of this group to carry the "We Will Deliver" slogan.
- UP 9777 was wrecked on 11 August 1999 at Clinton, Iowa.
- UP 9785 was renumbered from C&NW 8681 on 3 September 2005; previously reported as being renumbered on 31 October 2000, but a photo by Brian Woodruff shows the unrenumbered and unpatched C&NW 8681 on August 2, 2005 on the point of a train at Elgin, Tenn. - UP 9794 was renumbered from UP 9659 (ex C&NW 8690) on 13 February 1996.
- UP 9803, as UP 9668 (ex C&NW 8699) was the first former C&NW unit to be renumbered to UP, completed on 16 June 1995.
- UP 9816 (ex C&NW 8712) was painted to UP colors by contractor Rescar in Hudson, Colorado; repainted to UP's new wings and lightning stripe image during mid 2001; wrecked (grade crossing accident) on 29 October 2001 at Mesquite, Texas; repainted with UP's new U. S. flag image upon completion of wreck repairs at North Little Rock, Arkansas, on 1 March 2002.
- UP 9826 (ex C&NW 8722) was repainted to full UP colors on 13 December 2000, becoming the first GE locomotive to enter regular service with the new Wings image; UP 7555, a new C60AC, was completed in the new image at the GE factory in Erie, Pa., at about the same time, but did not enter service until January 2001.
