- UPY 850 was renumbered from UP 4126 on 6 June 2000, then rebuilt to an SD38-2, completed on 22 August 2000.
- UPY 855, as UP B4251 was retired on 29 March 2000; reinstated on 1 May 2000; rebuilt to UPY SD38-2 855, completed on 26 May 2000.
- The completion date for UPY 867 was changed from 29 November 2005 to 2 December 2005.

General Notes:
- These are the first six-axle Genset units to be built; and were built using frames from retired UP SD40-2s.
- Railpower's designation is RP20CD; UP uses RP20SD
- "As verified by several independent plate checks, all four of them carry the same serial number of 1RPBDB20875000187 and build date of 12/07. That serial is not correct for any of them. Note that the sixth digit is B, not C. The serial number is also carried in its entirety on RPRX 5407, an RP20BD demonstrator which was produced around the same time. I'm fairly sure that it actually belongs to that unit, and that it isn't correct for any of the four RP20CD's. What's most interesting is that the decals that I've seen photos of actually have the correct unit number printed in the lower right hand corner for the unit that they've been applied to, and appear to have the correct original build dates for the cores used." - UPY 894 and UPY 895 were assembled for Railpower by American Motive Power at Danville, New York
- UPY 894 was released in March 2009 and moved to Fort Worth, Texas, for its initial break-in period; moved to Roseville, California for regular service in May 2009, arriving on May 11, 2009.
- UPY 895 was released on June 12, 2009 and moved to Houston, Texas, for its initial break-in period
- UPY 896, 897, and 898 all have the same builder number. This has been checked and confirmed by three different individuals.
- The previous reporting mark for UPY 897, 898, and 899 is WP, a temporary reporting mark used by UP for movement of retired units.
- (As of August 2019, four of the six locomotives are out of service and stored at Metro East Industries in East St. Louis, Illinois. The operating lease for UPY 896-899 ended in early 2019 and the four locomotives were removed from service and stored at Roseville, California; moved to MEI in late July and early August 2019. UPY 894 and 895 remain in service at Roseville.)

- UPY 896 was rebuilt using the former UP 4298 as its core unit; UP 4298 was purchased by Railpower in July 2007 and was stripped of all components by an outside contractor, then shipped to Canada Allied Diesel (CAD), Lachine, Que., for conversion to an RP20SD; UP later furnished UP 3728 (numbered as WP 3729 on March 6, 2008), which was retired on April 2, 2008 and sold to Railpower as credit for Railpower having purchased UP 4298; UPY 896 entered regular service at J. R. Davis Yard in Roseville, California, following a dedication ceremony on May 22, 2008. (Further disposition of UP 3728/WP 3729 unknown.)
