General Notes:
- UP's "Green Goats" (low emissions, diesel hybrid switching locomotive) were designed by Railpower, and built under contract by GEC Alstom (former CP Rail Ogden Shops) at Calgary, Alberta, as Railpower's contractor, because at the time, Railpower did not yet have its own manufacturing facility.
- Railpower model designation is GG-20B; UP model designation is GG20GP, meaning Green Goat, 2000 horsepower, underframe from EMD GP core unit (retired GP9 units).
- As Green Goat battery powered unit, UPY 2004 was equipped with a Caterpillar C9 290-horsepower truck engine, used to charge the special batteries.
- UPY 2004 is owned by Railpower, and leased to UP.
- UPY 2004 was completed on 25 February 2005, as one of five Railpower Green Goat demonstrators, numbered as Railpower (RPRX) 2402-2405, and UPY 2004, along with the Green Goat GG-20B prototype, RPRX 2401. All were manufactured at GEC Alstom Calgary in 2004 and 2005.
- Initial assignment for UPY 2004 was Fresno, California, arriving there in mid March 2005 (seen en route at Roseville, California, on 10 March 2005), and entering service on April 8, 2005.

- Equipped with two Cummins 700 horsepower truck engines that meet the strictest EPA Tier 2 emissions standard. The formal Cummins designation is "QSK19 Tier 3 Off-Road Compliant engine".
- Assigned to a location in California; seen on November 29, 2008 in storage at West Colton.
- Returned to NRE in August 2010 to have its components upgraded to match the NRE-built units in the UPY 2700 series, retaining its twin Cummins engines rather than the larger units' three Cummins engines. UPY 2005 received remote control at the same time.
- Retired by UP in November 2018 and sold to S&S Sales and Leasing (SSRX) in November 2018 (formally retired by UP on January 16, 2019); moved to UP's yard in Villa Grove, Illinois; still there in 2020 with all UP markings painted out.

General Notes:
- UP's "Green Goats" (low emissions, battery-diesel hybrid switching locomotive) were designed by Railpower Technologies, Inc.; built under contract by at least three separate locations: Motive Power Industries, Boise, Idaho; Canada Allied Diesel (CAD,) Lachine, Que.; Ogden Shops, Calgary.
- Railpower model designation is GG-20B; UP model designation is GG20GE, meaning Green Goat, 2000 horsepower, underframe from GE core unit (retired B23-7 and B30-7 units); equipped with GE 752AF traction motors.
- Builder number shown is actually just a portion of each unit's actual builder number, which follows the 17-digit standard used by vehicle manufacturers. All have a 8-digit prefix of 1RPGGB20 denoting a U. S. company (1), RailPower as the manufacturer (RP), Green Goat as the product (GG), riding on four-wheel trucks (B) with 2000 horsepower (20). A ninth digit (not shown) is a computer check digit. In the eight digits shown above, the first two digits denote Super Steel as the builder (6), with 2005 as the model year (5). The remaining six digits are a simple sequence of serial numbers. (Example, from UP 2315: 1RPGGB20665000062)
- Initial assignment was Houston, Texas, with funding from a public grant from the Texas Emissions Reduction Program (TERP); UPY 2300 arrived in Houston in early September 2005.
- See Extra 2200 South, Issue 128, page 21 for additional background information on the design of these units.
- UPY 2313 and 2314 arrived in West Anaheim yard in Southern California in late November 2006, for use on local trains to Marlboro, Costa Mesa and Huntington Beach.
- UPY 2315 was rebuilt from NS B23-7 3981, which was cut down earlier in 2006 at RMDI and frame and trucks shipped out. It was one of over a dozen Dash 7 units being cut down at Pittston, Pa., and Utica, N.Y. for Railpower's GG20B program. NS 3981 was built for the Southern in January 1979, b/n 41990.

General Notes:
- Railpower model designation is RP-20BD; UP's model designation is RP20GE, denoting that the units were built using retired GE units as core units. Some of the frames were being "prepared" for Railpower by Metro East Industries (MEI) in St. Louis.
- Builder number shown is actually just a portion of each unit's actual builder number, which follows the 17-digit standard used by vehicle manufacturers. All have a 8-digit prefix of 2RPBDB20 denoting a Canadian company (2), RailPower as the manufacturer (RP), Battery Diesel as the product (BD), riding on four-wheel trucks (B) with 2000 horsepower (20). A ninth digit (not shown) is a computer check digit. In the eight digits shown above, the first two digits denote Super Steel as the builder (6), with 2004 as the model year (4). The remaining six digits are a simple sequence of serial numbers.
- These low emissions, diesel switching locomotives were designed by Railpower Technologies, Inc.
- All units built under contract for Railpower: UPY 2602-2684 were built for Railpower by Super Steel Schenectady, Inc., Glenville, N.Y.; UPY 2685-2698 built by Canada Allied Diesel (CAD), Lachine, Que.
- Equipped with three stand-alone Deutz generator sets (known as Gen-Sets), each producing 673 horsepower a piece, for a total of 2000 horsepower.
- Initial assignment will be Houston, Texas, with funding from a public grant from the Texas Emissions Reduction Program (TERP).
- UPY 2600 and 2601 are blank and not used.
