Salt Lake & Western Ry, 1881-1885
Salt Lake & Western operated two locomotives, their number 1, and their number 984. Both were placed in service during 1882, after the railroad began operations in May 1882. Both locomotives were "sold" to SL&W by Union Pacific in 1882 as part of a group of 16 locomotives sold by UP because they were considered to be too light. These 16 "light" locomotives were repaced in UP service by 12 heavier 2-8-0 Consolidation locomotives.
