Sprague, who was Superintendent of Northern Pacific Railroad's Pacific Coast Division when completed to Tacoma in 1873, and in 1879 became NP's General Superintendent and later President of Northern Pacific; during the brief period that NP owned the OSN, between 1872 and 1877, Sprague also served as OSN's superintendent.
