  • UP was given an additional six month extension on December 15, 1942, with the approval for abandonment taking effect on June 30, 1943.
  • Additional extension denied on June 17, 1943.

  • Built in 1912, opened for traffic on May 18, 1913.
  • Built to reduce the distance for through traffic between Cache Junction and Logan (13 miles less than route via existing Cache Valley Branch through Wellsville).
  • New cut-off was used seasonally for about 90 days, in October and November, for movement of sugar beets.
  • The through traffic has decreased recently due to the availability of truck transport.
  • Operated by OSL from May 18, 1913 to December 31, 1935, except period operated for USRA from December 28, 1917 to February 29, 1920.
  • Operated by UP from January 1, 1936 under Union Pacific Unification, see 207 ICC 543.
  • Abandoned November 1942, Work Order 428.

Finance Docket 14097 D&RGW to abandon 1.36 mile portion of Little Cottonwood Branch, from Sandy to Sand Pit. Applied February 11, 1943. Approved March 6, 1943. (Case not reported, listed in 254 ICC 822)
  • The branch was constructed in 1873 by the Wasatch & Jordan Valley Railroad.
  • A connection with the UP at Sandy was constructed in 1924, for the transfer of locomotive sand.
  • The operator of the sand pit has ceased operation and dismantled the machinery in "about five years ago" (c. 1938).
  • No operation of the branch since January 1, 1939.
