The locomotive in this photo doesn't have a visible number but should be San Pete Valley #2, which came second hand from the Cairo & St. Louis Railroad. Built in 1873 the locomotive (#13 "Alexander") was part of an order for six class 8-18D locomotives. These were a step up from the smaller Class 12 (or 8-16D class after 1874) locomotives. The steam dome in the middle of the boiler was typical of the pre-1874 narrow gauge moguls. It would be similar in size to Utah Northern #13 / Nevada Short Line #1 at the California State Railroad Museum. San Pete Valley #1 was a slightly larger (class 8-20D) locomotive.
